<br />Ths County Administrator presented a »etition for a road off of sR 1359. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Henry S. Walker, seconded by Commisaianer <br />William C. Ray, it was moved and adapted, that said petition be accepted. <br />The Clark presented a petition for Allen Street. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Tra A. Ward, seconded by Commissioner F_en_ry <br />S. ~,Jalkar, it was moved and adopted, that said petition ba accepted. <br />The County Administrator presented a latter from Mrs. Mmgdalena Beebe, 1511 <br />Cumberland Road, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Said letter requested that the -~ <br />3oard release Mrs. Beebe from the late listing penalty which had been imposed <br />against her property and she cited that sickness and over sight wsa the reason <br />she had failed to list by the required date. Discussion ensued. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ira A. Ward, seconded by Commissioner Harry 5. <br />Walker, it was moved and adopted, that the request of Mrs. Beebe be dented. <br />The County Administrator stated that a clerical error was responsible for <br />a late listing penalty being charged against Clark M. Rogara, 500 Sharon Road, <br />Chapel Rill, PTorth Carolina and Mr. Gattis requested that the 3oard authorize <br />the release of this penalty as there was no delinquency on the part of Mr. <br />Rogers. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ira.A. Ward, seconded by Commissioner Renry S. <br />Walker, it was moved and adopted, that the request of the County Administrator <br />relative to the late listing penalty of Clark M. Rogers be granted. <br />Nir, Gattis stated that he had received a request from William Hall, 107 <br />Holt Street, Hillsborough, North Carolina, relative to the Homestead Exemption <br />Statute, in that, Mr. Ra11 stated he had filed his request for exemption, but <br />that his tax notice did not reflect that he had been granted such an exemptior_. <br />Ms. Gattis stated that his office had been unable to locate the exemption form, <br />but that it was possible that said form had been misplaced or lost. He stated <br />that Mr. Hall was knowledgeable of the contexts of the form and that he, therefore, <br />believed such a form triad been oompleted. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Henry S. Walker, seconded by Commissioner William - <br />C. Ray, it was moved and adopted, that the Tax Supervisor ba permitted to grant <br />to Ms. Ra11 the Romestead Exemption which was authorized under G.S. 105-277.1. <br />The County Administrator presented a letter of request from Dr. Thomas <br />Griggs, one of Orange County~s Medical Examiners. Said letter requested the <br />County to provide money for the purchase of two pager receivers. Said letter <br />stated that these 4natrumenta would provide accees to the medical examiners at <br />all times and to th.e County~s law enforcement and medical personnel through the <br />North Carolina Memorial Hospital page operator. The cost of the pagers are <br />X329 each or about $660. Discussion ensued. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner William C. Hay seconded by Commissioner Ira A. <br />Ward, it was moved and adopted that the sum of 660 be appropriated from the General <br />Fund Emergency for the purchase of two Motorola pagers for the Medical Examiners <br />who are on the staff at North Carolina Memorial Hospital. <br />Chairman Bennett recognized Fred Cates, Mayor of the Town of Rillsborough. <br />Ns. Cates stated that he wsa present in behalf of the Hillsborough Town Board <br />to express the appreoiation of the Board for the service and the cooperation <br />which had bean rendered by Chairman Harvey D. Bennett and Commissioner William <br />C. Ray to the Town. <br />Chairman Gannett recognized Tom Ward, Director of the Social Services Department. <br />Mr. Ward stated that it was now mandatory that all day Care Centers be licensed, <br />Re stated that no real problem had arisen unt31 now, but that the Social Servioea <br />Department found itself in a position of being unable to administer the portion of <br />the law which required that each center be inspected by an electrical inspector <br />and a building inspector. Re stated that in the past that members of the local <br />fire department had performed the necessary inspection, but that they now found <br />themselves without official capacity and, therefore, the members were dubious about <br />the impending penalty *.ahiah could be incurred in case of afire. Mr. Ward <br />requested that the Board consider designating someone as an official inspector <br />and that the local fire department could act as the official building inspector. <br />Commissioner Norman Walker stated that he had talked with ~'ohn Forrest, who <br />had conducted previous investigations, but that he was now refusing to act due to <br />the lack of an official capacity to act as &:°ire and building inspector. <br />
