ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: February 3, 2009 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 4- - [, <br /> SUBJECT: Proclamation Recognizing UNC Women's Soccer 2008 NCAA Championship <br /> DEPARTMENT: BOCC PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> — Proclamation Donna Baker, Clerk to the <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> (919) 245-2130 <br /> PURPOSE: To consider a proclamation recognizing the UNC women's soccer team for winning <br /> the 2008 NCAA Women's National Soccer Championship. <br /> BACKGROUND: On December 7, 2008 the University of North Carolina women's soccer team <br /> captured the NCAA National Championship. The Tar Heels completed the season with 25 wins <br /> to finish with a 25-1-2 record. Under the guidance of Head Coach Anson Dorrance, UNC <br /> earned its 19th NCAA title and 20th overall national championship since 1981. <br /> Women's soccer at UNC has an unparalleled stretch of domination with no comparison at the <br /> collegiate or pro level, in any sport. The legend carries on as UNC women's soccer continues to <br /> inspire youth across the nation through its athletic leadership and teamwork. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: None <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board approve the proclamation <br /> recognizing the UNC Women's Soccer Team and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br />
