-c 7 ~~°- 496
Whereas, dear hunting is allowed in all of Orange County north of U. S. High-
#70 except kho Township, and whereas, deer hunting is also allowed in that part
of Durham County which adjoins E1no Township, and whereas, deer hunting has been
forbidden in Fho Township Por two years, and during such period an increase in deer
population has been observed, and whereas, the undersigned fear that as a result of
~o Township being an isolated pocket the deer population will increase to such a .~
point as to be a menace to growing orops and constitute a nuisance to the residents
of this portion of Orange County, and whereas, the segregation of Eno Township
Creates a difficulty for hunters who must pass through said township after hunting
in areas where deer hunting is legal in order to return to their homes by virtue
of their fear of being apprehended in Eno Township for transporting game which
they are unable to prove was killed in legal territory, and whereas, said situation
also presents difficulties for law enforcement officers:
Now, therefore, the undersigned residents of Eno Township, Orange County, do
request that Eno Township, Orange County, be opened for the hunting of deer for the
earns seasons as deer are allowed to be taken in the geographical areas which
surround Eno Township.
This the 21st day of September, 1972."
Chairman Bennett advised Mr. Hines that the Board would take the matter
under advisement.
Chairman Bennett advised the Board that Annie Strowd had reouested that SR
#110b be named Strowd Lane.
Upon motion of Commissioner Ira A. Ward, seconded by Commissioner William C. '
Ray, it was moved and adopted that SR ,1106 be designated as Strowd Lana. The
Clerk was requested to notify the State Highway Commission of the action of the
Board relative to the naming of SR T1106 and Walters Road.
Commissioner William C. Ray brought to the attention of the Board the request
that had been received from the Hillsborough Hiatoriaal Society relative to apses
in the old Courthouse for a welcoming center and office apace for the society.
Discussion ensued concerning said matter. Commissioner Rays motion died for the
lack of a aeaond.
Commissioner William C. Ray stated that for some months now a group of
interested citiaens had been making an effort to prevent the City of Durham from •
acquiring property along the F21o as the future site of a reservoir. He said he
felt the Orange County Board of Commissioners should decide what position the Board
would take as he felt that to delay cation would be injurious to the City of
Durham and to those people who were interested in preserving the Fho Wilderness
Area. He requested that the Beard consider writing a letter to the City of
Durham requesting the City consider other sites for a reservoir and that the
Board should ezpresa the opinion that the area should be preserved. Discussion
ensued.
Commissioner Ira A. Ward stated that he felt that the Board should request
the Planning Board to study the possibility of including, in the Land Uae Ordinance,
a provision for reservoir arses. It was agreed that action on this matter should
be deferred until the next meeting.
• '" Chairman Bennett informed the Board that the University of North Carolina will
place all of its public utilities on the market in the near future. He stated
that he felt the County should aonaider buying all or a portion of these utilities,
with apeaial emphasis being placed on the water system. The County Administrator
stated that he felt this was a praatinal idea and that the Board should request
the Utilities Study Commission to keep the Orange County Commissioners informed and
advised on the situation. It was agreed that the County should employ an agenoy to
conduct a feasibility study on the operation of the public utilities. s:-'f
The Board agreed to endorse the petition submitted by E.
