a <br />a <br />ORA:dGE COUPITI~ BOARD OF COT•Ti~~SS20T~'RS <br />February 7, 1972 <br />f a ~1v <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Orange County met in regular session <br />on S4onday, February 7, 1972, in the Conference i3oom of the Social Services <br />Building in R311sborough, North Carolina at 10:00 o'clock A.M. <br />Members Present: Chairman Rarvey D. Bennett and CoaLmisaionera William C. <br />Ray, Henry S. Walker, Ira A. Ward and C, Norman Walker. <br />Members Absent: None <br />Minutes of the previous meetings were read and approved. <br />Chairman Benr_ett recognized the delegation which was present from the <br />Chapel Hi11 League of Women Voters. <br />Chairman Bennett recognized Mre. Da~.sy Green, Route 1, Mebane, North Carolina. <br />Mrs. Green presented a road petition for SR 1310 and called attention to the fact <br />that a Mr. Boone had refused to sign the petition, but that [diley Perry had <br />signed in lieu of I~,r. Boone in order that said petition might be submitted. The <br />Clerk was requested to foxnrard same to the State $ighway Commission along with a <br />letter of explanation about the petition. <br />A road petition for SR 1313 was presented and the Clerk was authorized to <br />forward same to the State Highway Commissign. <br />Chairman Bennett read a letter from the Itorth Carolina Department of Sooial <br />Services which had been addressed to Sheriff C. D. Knight relative to certain <br />aonditiona which exists in the jail. Discussion ensued relative to the matter. <br />Chairman Bennett presented a letter from the State Department of Social <br />Services addressed to Tom Ward, Director of the local department. Said letter <br />commended the Crange County Department for its efficient administration of the <br />food stamp program. <br />Chairman Bennett advised the Board that he had attended the organizational <br />meeting of Region J and the purpose for the establishment of this region was that <br />application for Federal Grants could be made on a regional basis. <br />S. M. Gatti s, County Administrator, presented a Resolution and an Agreement <br />for the installation of a police information network terminal in the Sheriff's <br />off3.ce. He stated that the rental coat of the terminal installation would not <br />begin until the end of one year and that if the County chose to retain the <br />terminal than same would coat w153.53 per month. Discussion ensued. <br />The following resolution was offered by S. M. G'attia and a motion was <br />made by Commissioner William C. Ray that it be adopted, this motion was <br />seconded by Commissioner Norman Walker, and upon being put to a vote, was <br />unanimously adopted; <br />WIIMREAS, the Tdorth Carolina Department of Justice Police Information <br />PTetwork plans to make available to law enforcement agencies and other <br />appropriate agencies of the State through the use of a centralized <br />computer system various information now available or to ba developed <br />essential to the efficient operation of said agenoiea such as, but not limited <br />to, information contained in the Department of Motor Vehicles' Piles, <br />information contained in the National Crime Information Center, information <br />contained in the State Bureau of Investigation's files, Department of <br />Corrections' files, and information :from local law enforcement agencies by <br />the installation of a Police Information Network terminal in the County of <br />Crange for a period of one year provided the County of orange agrees to <br />furnish a proper site for installing such terminal, and the necessary <br />personnel to operate said terminal, and further agrees to assume the <br />rental cast of such terminal at the end of one year from the date of <br />installation' that said installation of a Police Information Network <br />terminal is considered to be most necessary to the preservation of law and <br />order and the promotion of publio safety within Orange County; and <br />[+>TIQtEAS, the North Carolina Department of Justice Police Information <br />Network and this County have agreed as follows: <br />(A) The North Carolina Department of Justice Police Information <br />Network will install and maintain for a period of one year a terminal <br />connected to the Police Information Network System and also train operators <br />selected and paid by the County to operate such terminal. <br />
