PURPOSE <br />The purpose of this policy is to protect the physical assets, <br />information and records, and safety of personnel through the use of <br />good safety practices and precautions. It is essential that each <br />employee actively participate in the County's security program and <br />follow these guidelines and procedures as outlined in this policy <br />statement. This policy applies to all County buildings. <br />B. SECURING BUILDINGS <br />Physical assets are most vulnerable after normal working hours. <br />These assets can be protected by securing buildings after the close <br />of business each day. <br />1. In buildings with a single department, the Department Head <br />or his/her designee is responsible for locking exterior <br />doors at 5:00 p.m. <br />2. In circumstances when employees work after 5:00 p.m., the <br />Department Head is responsible for ensuring that the <br />responsibility for securing the building is established. <br />3. In buildings with more than one department as occupants, the <br />Department Heads will coordinate together to appoint one <br />from their group to be responsible for security. This <br />responsibility may be rotated. <br />4. The Department Head is responsible for ensuring that <br />employees are educated in the County security policy and <br />that all procedures are followed. <br />5. After-hour meetings: <br />a. When night or weekend meetings/activities are held <br />in County facilities, the Department Head or employee <br />arranging the meeting or activity is responsible for <br />securing the building during and after the meeting. <br />1 <br /> <br />
