. 1 <br />' 1 MINUTES <br />2 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />•3 REGULAR MEETING <br />4 March 6, 2001 <br />5 <br />6 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, March 6, <br />7 2001 at 7:30 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. <br />g <br />9 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Stephen H. Halkiotis and Commissioners <br />1o Moses Carey, Jr., Alice M. Gordon, and Barry Jacobs <br />11 COUNTY COMMISSIONER ABSENT: Margaret W. Brown, <br />12 COUNTY ATTORNEY PRESENT: Geoffrey Gledhill <br />13 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager John M. Link, Jr., Assistant County Manager <br />14 Rod Visser and Clerk to the Board Beverly A. Blythe (All other staff members will be identified <br />15 appropriately below) <br />16 <br />17 NOTE: ALL DOCUMENTS REFERRED TO IN THESE MINUTES ARE IN THE PERMANENT <br />18 AGENDA FILE IN THE CLERK'S OFFICE. <br />19 <br />20 1. ADDITIONS OR CHANGES TO THE AGENDA <br />21 The Board added to the agenda a closed session "to consult with an attorney retained by the <br />22 Board in order to preserve the attorney-client privilege between the attorney and the Board, pursuant <br />23 to G.S. 143-318.11(a)(3) in the case of Orange County versus CP&L." The County Commissioners <br />24 also accepted a revised abstract for items 5a and 7a as distributed. <br />25 <br />26 PUBLIC CHARGE <br />~7 Chair Halkiotis read the public charge. <br />8 <br />29 2. CITIZEN 8~ AUDIENCE COMMENTS <br />3o a. Matters not on the Printed Aaenda <br />31 Karl Rabe proposed that the County Commissioners consider forming a Commission for <br />32 Men since the County has a Commission for Women. He gave his contact information to Clerk to <br />33 the Board Beverly Blythe. <br />34 b. Matters on the Printed Aaenda (These matters were considered as the Board <br />35 addressed the items on the agenda below.) <br />36 <br />37 3. BOARD COMMENTS <br />3s Commissioner Gordon spoke about a Triangle Transit Authority public forum on March 8'h at <br />39 7:00 at the Hillsborough Town Barn to solicit public comment regarding express bus service between <br />4o Hillsborough and Duke Medical Center. <br />41 Commissioner Gordon said that there was also going to be the 25th Anniversary Celebration of <br />42 Women's History Month on March 8tr, at the Government Services Center. This event will begin at <br />43 7:30 p. m. <br />44 Commissioner Gordon suggested that there be a cover sheet on all agenda packets stating <br />45 whether or not the packet is complete. <br />46 Commissioner Jacobs mentioned that there was a public information and comment meeting on <br />47 March 1St regarding the Little River Regional Park at the Pleasant Green Road Community Center <br />4s and about 40 people attended. According to the timeline, the Little River Advisory Board will be <br />9 giving a report to the County Commissioners in April. <br />~ Commissioner Jacobs mentioned that at the Orange County landfill for the next four Saturdays <br />~1 compost would be sold at $10.00 a scoop. This is a product of the restaurant food waste collection <br />52 program. The compost will be available from 7:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. <br />
