POLICY FOR INSERTION INTO THE POLICY MANUAL
• MEETING DATE: March 15, 1988 NUMBER: P:0330
EFFECTIVE DATE: March 15, 1988 REVISIONS:
POLICY:
SEPTIC TANK NITRIFICATION FIELDS--DELINEATION ON
PRELIMINARY/FINAL SUBDIVISION PLATS
To consider the policy question regarding the delineation of
primary and back-up nitrification fields on preliminary and
final subdivision plats.
That at a recent agenda review meeting, two subdivisions,
Albert Reaves Estates and James Mark Vine, were withheld from
the Commissioners consideration, pending the collection of
information regarding the delineation of primary and back-up
nitrification fields on subdivision plats. The issue emerged
from a recommendation by OWASA that the fields be denoted on
such plats.
That a decision to require such notations on subdivision
plats is a question of policy. Preliminary information
obtained from Environmental Health personnel indicated that
it is possible to denote primary and back-up nitrification
fields on preliminary and final subdivision plats but at a
greater cost to both the applicant and the Health Department.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
The Administration recommends further assessment of the costs
involved in a policy which requires delineation of primary
and back-up nitrification fields on subdivision plats.
Until further assessment of the costs required for such a
policy is determined, the Administration recommends that
delineation of primary and back-up nitrification fields on
subdivision plats, preliminary and final, not be required.
•
